When God seems dead

What if our prayers went unanswered for a long period? Our prayers are just taking a chance if we have self-doubt and little faith.

Then, we became impulsive in our instinct. We may even challenge the existence of God in our minds.

It is because God seems dead to us when he does not pay heed to our emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical needs. In a way, it’s when we’re preoccupied and selfish, or want immediate help.

I’ve been there; we’ve been there. However, there’s an underlying purpose to it. We cannot coerce God to exist out of our desire, and neither did the work of God only in our favor.

We can’t put God in a box, or we cannot have a God that fits in our box. The evil one plays well within our egoistic framework in our gullible mindset.

God is the supreme being. A larger scale and his mysterious plans are way beyond our understanding.

We love God. Yes, we love him very dearly. So, we want him to be with us forever. He abides in us.

Yet when we did not feel it every day, we became lonely.

I’ll be dead soon:

“As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.” Matt. 26:2

He prepared them well.

The disciples spent a good amount of time with Jesus, the son of God, who is their leader and their hope.

Yet they did not understand everything. The Comforter hasn’t come as yet. They were assured that the Holy Spirit would let them understand the mystery behind it all.

At the table, during the Passover, they have a good time with him. Although not his exact words, while they had the Last Supper, Jesus told them that he would die. However, he would also rise again.
“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” Luke 22:15-16

His Words before he died:

After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 22:14-20
By these words, Jesus is hinting that his body and blood would be sacrificed for the sins of mankind. He spoke seven words spoken on the cross.

Jesus died on the Cross:

They were frightened that he would die on the cross. They were terrified of losing him. At times, our only concern is our safety, refuge, and very close guidance.

It was quite understandable because fear easily played with the human mind. It was nothing new to them.

Faith and fear don’t go well. The Son of God might somehow escape death, but without which there is no salvation.

They must have heard only one part. That’s how our mind has been played with most often. They were lonely!

What if they too got arrested to face the same? It’s entirely possible for the human mind. They did not follow him to the Cross. They locked themselves up in the upper room.

The Death of Jesus:

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.

Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away.
But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. Luke 23:44-49

The Lonely Road:

Where were they now?
Did he really die? It was his purpose, but it was hard to understand. But we did not see the underlying divine work in progress for mankind. This divine work shapes us to be a faithful believers by strengthening and encouraging us to fight another day.

We experienced the same kind of situation in our lives. The road to Emmaus did not appear to be a pleasant journey at first.

Jesus did wonders for many. However, he seems dead to us at times. The unanswered prayers take a toll on us.
Yes, he will rise again. But the wait is grueling.

That is how we are: easy to believe and easy to let go. We must cling to our faith.

Don’t die on me:

Please be present forever. I am ploy to folly. I’m afraid I may be taunted, ‘ Your God is dead!’

Have you ever felt it this way? I did. Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Psalms 102

The kind of our different world; some sick people, ill and weak, devastated by broken relationships, left alone, separated by disaster, and certain unwanted circumstances hugely impact our lives.

It’s just a matter of time, we say to ourselves. We would soon understand that God is still living even though he may seem to be dead at times.

Dead for our sake:

It is for our good.
God demonstrates his love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

We are free from sin in the very first place. Christ died for our sins. 1 Cor.15:3

And to get closer, truly longing for his presence with us, even in the realm of the physical world.
His grace and mercy are with us forever to those who believe and wait on him.

And yes, we can’t control God! Sometimes I wish he answered me quickly in the way I wanted.

He rose again as he told them on the third day. His words never fail. He never fails to keep his word. Luke 24

We were often tempted to believe otherwise.

God is not dead!
