It might seem extreme or intense to describe a believer as someone different. No, dare to be different because he or she believes in something which becomes the anchor of life.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In general, a believer is a person who has a religious belief or who strongly believes that something is good or right. Why do we call ourselves a believer?
My reason for writing this post is to highlight the purpose of every believer. However, if I do not list out the purposes here, it will follow soon.
Here, I would talk about the elements and characteristics of a person that make them a believer in the perspective of Christianity.
Faith:
Believers have a confident conviction that Jesus is who the Bible says he is. Jesus is the only son of God – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:18
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
There’s nothing more to add, other than what Jesus has told his disciples. When a person puts his faith in Jesus, his words, teaching, sacrificial death, and his resurrection, then he is a believer.
It is not self-belief nor a self-made belief system. I understand many were filled with doubt because they did not encounter his true love.
Commitment:
Some people argue commitment is enslavement. It is not! Commitment is to entrust our life entirely to him. I agree man is born free and has the freedom to make choices.
That’s what we enjoy as we’re not programmed to directly obey God’s command, but out of sincerity, love, and commitment to our God.
Believers are committed to following Jesus and living a life that reflects their faith. Giving priority to God, just as Jesus did.
Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:46
Repentance:
Believers have asked God to forgive their sins and have turned away from sin. Repentance is the acknowledgment of sin and the intention to start a new life.
It’s a process that involves confessing your sins, feeling regret, and committing your life to Christ the Savior through his abiding grace. “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”Matt. 3:2
God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance. But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. Romans 2:4-5
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:9
Without repentance and confession of our sins, no one can become a believer in Christ.
New Creation:
Believers are considered new creations of Christ Jesus; their history is now united with his. If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come the old has gone, the new is here! 2 Cor.5:17
With regard to your former way of life, put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; be made new in the attitude of your mind; and put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Gal. 6:15
A believer is buried with him through baptism into death so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4-6
Eternal life:
The gift of a believer is eternal life. We chose to take advantage of the physical to liberate our body in the presence of God.
Believers believe that they will live with Jesus in the afterlife. The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. Romans 6:23, 1 Peter 5:10
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.1 Tim 6:12
A believer in Christ has faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Messiah. They believe that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross has forgiven their sins and given them eternal life.
Are you a believer?
I do hope you are. However, I am not sure nor do I know what is your belief and value system. It is because we find our beliefs to be true. Without believing in something our life here on earth would be meaningless.
It takes deep thinking, sacrifice, and sometimes very dangerous to become a believer. We were set free from the bondage of sin to do good. Not only good but acceptable for God to spend time with him.
Then lastly, every believer has a mission to live for God. We will discuss the purpose of every believer soon.
But before that check yourself if you’re a true believer or not.I am a believer; I believe that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, despite my suffering/broken brain, according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
Take time to thank God for his love to be called a believer of the living God with all of his promises.
Thank you Lord for giving me the freedom that I’m not coerced to believe in you. You loved me first so I love you back! Great is thy faithfulness. I’ll be a believer of you not by blind faith, but of love filled in the spirit.
