Few leaves of long-leafed coriander or culantro from my hometown are rich enough to make me feel the taste of home. Each year, my mother sent me some saplings so that we could add them to our potted plants, in the land where it is not grown.
We keep an eye on them; water them, make the soil loose, mist the leaves occasionally to clean the dust, and add some manure to enhance its growth. In short, we did whatever we could to let it grow or let them survive, in the least.
But then, there are number of times I was away, for more than a week, for my hospital stay. There’s none to take care of the house and our potted plants for quite some time. The herbs are bound to perish since my abilities are limited.
In other times, even when I got home we forget to water them, leaving them almost dried up. Although I tried my best I can’t really take care of them; some die, only some eaten. And those that are eaten served their purpose.
We did love them but I let them perished. When it is time, I uprooted them because they won’t tolerate the changing climate – it is their time to go. Or else, they’d still perish and becomes a mess in the surrounding area.
The Eye of God:
The eye of God is all over the earth; looking after all the inhabitants that He had created. Does he ever forget to water you? Did you feel dry? Yes, we did feel it that way, certain number of times.
But the Lord never forgets to water us as his power is not limited. When we feel dry, it is time to look to him for some nourishment. The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the sons of man. From his dwelling place he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth. (Psalm 33:13-14)
Job, even in the midst of his sufferings, said: “His eyes are upon the ways of a man, and he sees all his steps.” (Job 34:21) In other words, God has provided security and he knows what he is doing. It is worth to put our trust in Him.
A Father Keeping Eye on Children:
As a stay at home dad, I’m more concern for my children than when I’d started, more often while thinking for their future. It is out of love that such a thought crossed my mind many times.
I know my frailties, but still, I wanted good things for them. I know I can’t get it done by myself but with God, I shouldn’t be worry, He assured. For God knows my needs even before asked him. (Matthew 6:8)
The rough path, if it may happen, must draw us closer to him. Through Jesus Christ, His beloved son, we become his beloved children. It is a privilege we received through our faith in Him.
The Apple of God’s Eye:
“Keep me as the apple of your eyes; hide me in the shadow of your wings,” requested King David in Psalm 17:8. He realized that only the Lord is his security in his living.
People may surround him; trying to take his life, oppressed him, and surrounded him. But if the Lord uphold his steps in the path of the Lord, his footsteps will not slip. The Lord will deliver him from the hands of the wicked.
Now, you may asked why David too, being a human with sin or history of sin claim to be the apple of God’s eye. He is not perfect but he poured out his heart and soul before the Lord.
Under the Consistent Care of the Lord:
In the baptism of Jesus Christ, a voice from above – the Father, declared, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17) Jesus is the apple of God’s eye.
Jesus was crushed, suffered, and put to death later; the Lord does not actually protect him at all costs. It is for us to become his beloved son, in the consistent care of Him in the coming days.
We become the apple of God’s eye. However, that does not deter our chances of being a light upon others. No one choose suffering and pain. At times, we felt deserted, lonely, and forsaken; yet there’s a purpose to everything.
But deeply speaking, we are the children of God – his prized possession, and he protects us from the hands of the evil. We are bought with a price!
The Compassionate and Caring Father:
Going back to where we began, I failed to take care of my favorite herb on many occasions. Sometimes, it is of due negligence while due to unavoidable circumstances in my limited being, the other times. The thing is, I admitted that I’m a not a good caretaker.
Not only that there are many times I failed my duties as a human being – in loving and caring my near and dear ones, let me just called it. And my compassion level can get depleted very easily.
However, God’s compassion fails not! He’s always caring, and watering our soul, that, we might grow in knowledge and in the likeness of him in his grace.
Time and again, the burning sensation in my body – face, loose arms, legs, and toes tend to distract me towards the compassion of Christ showered on me. Yet in the abiding grace of God I’m not consumed.
The caring Father, our God, who never forget our existence although we sometimes deny his existence and love in some way still kept us under His consistent care.
The Unfailing Love of God:
The phrase “God’s love endures forever,” is seen in several verses of the Bible. It is correlated to as praise of the goodness, mighty, and faithfulness of God in its essence.
It is not the absence of sufferings, afflictions, and the many form of difficulties in life. As we know, in moments of distress we are often drawn closer to the Lord.
So, in every situation we must know that being the children of God, we are reserved compassion, love, and grace sufficient for us to move forward at a time. We are under the consistent care of the Almighty who created all things for His glory.
And now I wanted to end herewith a verse that filled our room for some weeks as my son tries memorizing with the help of her mother. It’s from Psalm 121:8, which reads:
The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore!
