Grass after the Rain

Most of the time, it was hot and dry here. The monsoon rains, each year, is the one we are eagerly waiting for. The fauna and flora inhabiting the area are also waiting for the rain.

Grass in the corner of gardens, parks, and pavements appeared lifeliess in the dry spell of the year. But yesterday morning, as I dropped off my school-going-kids to their school bus stand, the grasses catch my attention.

Few months ago, their dried up twigs laid unattended, trampled upon by big herbivores. They have their hard times, but with their roots still intact. It was a pity looking at them, at that time. But now, they’re a delight to the seeing eyes!

Like the grass here in the picture, I waited for the Lord as they waited for the rain. I know deliverance; by way of renewing my strength is on the way because I have hope in Him. Yet, instances are there where I have to endure the dry spell.

By referring to as the dry spell, I hope you know it by now, the sufferings and circumstances I wanted to say. Reassuring myself of my hope, my prayer, stating my conditions, and going to be my future; I wrote this piece inspired by the green grass that I saw. So I put this out here:

Grass after the Rain

It’s long waiting for the rain
Enduring the dry spell isn’t easy
Insects don’t enjoy my presence
Grass-eaters didn’t bother
Give me a glance, at once.
‘Oh, I may not see a drop of rain’
The drop, which’d renew my strength
I am dry, yes simply dried up.

Then one day the clouds gather ‘round,
From ends of the earth, I don’t know.
The clouds burst – thundering as loud
The lightning almost burning me
And a gush of winds followed.

Oh, it rains; it rains finally!
I’m making it; I’m enjoying it!
My stems give out new leaves.
I’m renewed; I’m strong again.
Come creatures, big or small
Let’s celebrate life; let’s give thanks!
Let’s dance joyfully in the cool breeze
With His mercy, grace, and love
God never fails!

##

And as I looked ‘round with joy,
It’s green and hale, everywhere.
‘Cause the Lord did not forget us.
They’re filled with joy, just as me.
From now on, I’ll abide in Him
The faithful Lord forever reigns!

Oh, it rains; it rains finally!
I’m making it; I’m enjoying it!
My stems give out new leaves.
I’m renewed; I’m strong again.
Come creatures, big or small
Let’s celebrate life; let’s give thanks!
Let’s dance joyfully in the cool breeze
With His mercy, grace, and love
God never fails!

Once taken as dried-up twig
Trampled upon by big-footed toes.
Yet I’ll make it till the next rain
I have hope, only hope in Him
He never despises me!
