A day makes a difference – a huge one although with plenty of follow-ups. The hope of seeing a new day is the biggest motivation when we were in deep trouble. A day can witness you fall or prosper; a good or bad day is worthy to hold onto our faith and belief.
Ponder over this particular question, ‘How do you spend your day? Or What did you do during the day? People who knew me already or anyone alike asked me this question.
‘You must be having ample of time now…’.I have heard it often since I quit my regular job. The inquiry and the presumption or supposed answer went together came from them. I owe an explanation to none except my children or family. My family know what I’m doing. My children often reminded me to take care of myself.
While the question is a bit intrusive; the presumptive answer makes it worse.
It is one of those conversations which often follow when I told them that I had quit my regular job some years ago. you must be having ample time..is also one of the assumptions or a conclusion duly drawn on me by others.
As you know I cannot tell everything it’s minute details of how I spend my days. So, I appear to accept whatever they said about me.
I have been and worked in several jobs: From an Elementary Teacher to a private tutor. Then, in the corporate world of BPO /KPO to Public Sector Undertaking Bank. And then to freelancing. So, I have been down the road a bit.
And I did understand the value of a day where we’re in. However, this stereotyping thing sometimes makes me uncomfortable. It is not how busy we were that defines a day but how we recognise the worth of a day and spend responsibly. Our routes may not blend at all, it’s unique. And that is the beauty of life. Mind the gap!
A day at a time:
In the gospel of Matthew Chapter 6, Jesus tells us to live one day at a time. One should not worry about tomorrow. For, we’re not sure whether we’ll see the light of tomorrow. It is better to ask the provision of God for our daily venture.
However, it is the area where I lack to follow His teaching. I know that drawing close to him in his mercies and grace which gets renewed every morning would help me spend a day would him.
Now, a day can be spent in different ways: my time in the hospital rooms was some of which I would not like to recall. Yet some days in the hospital with God were amazing!
The Mystery of a Day:
I’m not going into the details of explaining it. But I want you to read this verse from the Scripture and ponder over it.
“But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and
the thousand years like one day.” 2 Peter 3:8
It is well known that we’ve had more than one, but many calendars in the world. The way of counting a day for the present and previous civilizations, which we tried to connect them all to find out the future. God’s way of using a day might be different than what we ought to think. Let us keep it for now to the business of the wise or knowledgable.
How do you spend your day?
If a day is well spent we feel delighted at the end of the day. I love working hard and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I never knew the day will come when I’d work very less due to my circumstances. I will not repeat my circumstances here for now.
However, here’s what I considered important: Even if you work very hard for a thousand years; a person who might just work a day in our eyes might outpace us in the end. So, it all comes down to serving our purpose and embracing our destiny.
It is not simply you who plan your life. Yes, we’ll make a plan, we’ll invest our mind, money and our energy. But the outcome is of the Lord’s. Proverbs 19:21
It takes a Day
There’s a day I suffer the pain.
It worsens or it doesn’t get better.
Some days are blue; some days are light.
Not every day is lonesome but only some.
A new day renewed my hope.
It takes a day to make a decision
Yet a long day dealing with the result.
Embracing whatever it might be
The day we found love never gets old.
Emotion runs high; our hearts pounding
Love nourishes a day one at a time
It takes a day for someone to lose love
We did not forget the day we’re born
Nor did we forget the day of our grief
All it takes is just a day!
