The damage caused was unprecedented. I don’t think he wouldn’t even dream of before. He despised his master who anointed him king.
The Lord has rescued him from the jaws of death. He knew the Lord was his refuge and only strength. Yet it has happened!
He repented and confessed wholeheartedly. Psalms 51 Thus, the prophet told him that the Lord had taken away his sin. He is not going to die.
Yet a lingering damage was upon his household. In other words, the consequence of his sin is to be bored by him. I am reluctant, but I must admit that it resonated well with me. We’re imperfect people when it comes to dealing with life.
The Lord God took away his sin as the East is far from the West.
Yes, you got it right. The damage was caused when King David took Bathsheba into his home during wartime. 2 Samuel 10-12
The root cause of the damage:
It is sad to see in the modern world that the sin committed by David was not taken seriously anymore. The world become so liberal in one way, and so hellish in the other. However, a small decision changes our daily living and forever in good and bad ways.
Whatever the case and how we have taken about the matter regarding sin, nothing too big nor so small in God’s eye. At the same time, the damage caused is lingering; it stays longer than expected.
The good part is that by the grace of God, we can start over a new life. We can come before the throne of grace to ask for strength if we’re to face the lingering damage.
The lingering damages:
At first, I was not sure why the thought of writing about the consequences came to my mind. It was uncalled for, and I am anxious about it.
One, “the sword will never depart from your house…” 2 Samuel 12:10
The infighting among his family and his children soon followed suit. The family atmosphere has been cooked up, in short, which led to his son’s rebellion against him. David lost his beloved son in the process.
What had happened before him was so cruel that I wished if closed my eyes it would vanish in thin air leading to a better chapter of his life story.
Two, “You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight…” 2 Samuel 12:12
Thus, one of his sons rises to defile his bed. I don’t want to take name. 2 Samuel 16 It was more than shameful. I can’t even imagine what will David make of it.
Sometimes, the Lord’s ways of keeping his word were too dangerous, and he did not follow his decree, although he was full of love and compassion.
This is the struggle of many believers and non-believers of the Word. Why so much evil in the world? But the scripture says, God is faithful nothing is beyond what we can bear 1 Cor. 10:13
Thus, I keep trusting him in his abiding grace. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. God knows when to do what and how to let it happen in our life. He is faithful beyond doubt.
Three, there was calamity in his household and nation. His anxiety affected his household, and the Ammonites fought against them on the other front.
But the Lord God was with Israel, and Joab fought the Ammonites for him. Let’s leave the incident between Amnon and Tamar and the time until Solomon became king for another time.
Amid the lingering damages:
Amid the storm of life, David remained with God, although shameful and a bloodbath had occurred in his household, he was one whom the Lord called a person after his own heart. 1 Samuel 13:14
What has happened, we can’t take it back. However, we can find peace in God. In this unlikely episode of David’s life, there were so many takeaways for the contemporary Christian.
Let us find comfort in the Lord God; he is firm on his word. Sometimes, his love seems tough, but I believe God’s love is abiding, faithful, and unfailing.
Beyond the damages:
Here is the upside of life – that the Lord was firm on his promises should we steadfastly repent and confess our sins before him. It doesn’t end with the damages, there is more to it to discover for us.
If it’s in the way of humans, King David, just like us was not entitled to the good promises of God. He sees through the heart.
For the promises, let us go back to 2 Samuel 7:12-16, which stated the word of God:” When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.
I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”
The same prophecy was reiterated through Jeremiah Isaiah and the fulfillment was seen in the birth of Christ in David’s lineage. Matthew 1 and Luke 1:31-33, John 7:42
The compassion of God never runs dry; it is renewed every morning flowing like a river. Lam. 3:22-23 The living water keeps flowing from one believer to another.
Healing the damages:
Healing life hurts. We need to venture our thoughts into the darks water we wanted to suppress forever. However, it can’t simply happen that way. Unless we dealt with it, it comes up. Even when we thought we dealt with it already, it hurts on a bad day.
I don’t know about you; I am not perfect. There were some of the path I told God that I’d walking for him if I’m out of the pit. Then, I didn’t, I got lost in the good tidings of life. It never feels good to feel you’re not good enough for someone. But the will to feel better give a new hope.
The good thing in life is Jesus Christ has bailed me out from the wrong I have done. Galatians 5:1, John8:36
He has given me peace when I most needed him. I may not be physically healed, which I will talk about in the next post, Christ is my refuge and abiding savior. I believe many good doors will be opening in soon, as it has happened in the past.
It is a great privilege for me to have Jesus by my side, who lights the lamp for my path. Everyday I believe that I’m on my way to complete healing with his blessings given to me as per my day to day needs.
