Beyond the joy of freedom from the clutch of impending sin, every believer carries the gospel. It is a freedom with a purpose. A true believer will find a way to spread the message about Christ.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Gal.5:1
In his letter to the Philippians, the apostle Paul shared his experience in being the carrier of the good news. It is clear that not everyone has gracefully embraced the gospel, but he has experienced imprisonment, chained, and suffered for the gospel.
However, he rejoices in the Lord as his perspective of evaluating the circumstances comes from his faith in the living God. Phil. 1:12-18
I have been through much. My journey in life has many ups and downs, sometimes it slowed down a little too much. However, all these must have a purpose although most of them have not been revealed to me yet.
Human sinfulness is a problem. But God can solve it. Thus, we have a purpose of gracefully accepting the purpose of it.
Here, let us look at some of the purposes of every believer:
Carrier of the Gospel:
Every believer is the ambassador and messenger of the Gospel. We are carriers of the living water. Wherever we go we must not be around empty. The pot of our living water must be refiled from time to time.
If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.2 Corinthians 5:20-21
Every believer has a purpose to reach the lost. If necessary, we may use words as we are the carriers of the gospel. However, we must let our light shine so that it attracts and shows the way to reach the lost. Sometimes, it is by coincidence we meet people, but God has a purpose in sending them to you.
An Encourager of God’s People:
Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. Heb. 3:13-14
In my journey, I need encouragement, especially after my broken brain and the need to resign from my job. In the eyes of the world, I felt helpless, and spiritually I am weak. I need an encourager whom I hardly found, except for relying on the word of God. Sometimes I simply waited for time to pass, not knowing what to do.
Barnabas, the apostle Joseph, was nicknamed the son encouragement or exhortation, by his fellow apostles. God uses him to arm and lift others many times throughout the Scripture. Acts 11:22-24 and God can use us too in our way and stipulated time.
Your encouragement at the right time will help others grow to maturity.
“Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thess. 5:11
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” Prov. 12:25
Servant of the Living God:
The way of Jesus is opposite to the world. Thus, the ransom he paid for us set us free, however to follow his teaching is a great deal in the world. Yet it is possible to have a mindset focused on living for God.
The word servant leadership is a twist in itself since leaders do easily falter in balancing being a servant of the people of God they served, they were tempted to lord over them.
Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for man. Mark 10:43-45
Our purpose must be focusing on becoming like Christ Jesus. Nowadays people and leaders are more religious but far from God. Lead and live by example.
“You are the greatest Christian someone would ever meet in their lifetime.”
In my next post, I would like to present the framework of an INITIATIVE every believer can participate in
