Making up our minds to worship is not quite an easy task. Imagine you did not know who you would be worshipping.
However, they set out probably to prove their ability for them. They were the wise men of the time. In other words, they were also referred to as the Magi.
What if they were wrong? Have you ever thought about it that way? What if you’re on the wrong path? The wise men were quite confident about what they saw.
“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?
We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:2
In each era, we have philosophers, astronomers, thinkers, activists, and innovators to serve our needs. It must have been in this way that the wise men have come to worship him.
Worth Worshipping:
In their case faith is not mentioned yet in the Scripture, so we’ll not talk about what the Scripture doesn’t mention.
The work of the spirit is beyond fathomable; it appears loud and clear at times but beyond the understanding of mankind at other times.
The wise knew something worth worshipping was coming on earth so they rose to find him. To find the King of kings, we must have an open mind to find out more about him. and the seeking mind shall find him.
He himself will bore our sin in his body on the cross so that we’re free from sin and lead a righteous life in the eyes of the Lord. 1 Pet. 2:24. They didn’t want to miss it.
How they worship him:
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.
Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.v.11
Their gifts illuminate the aspects of Christ’s identity. The gifts have symbolic meanings – Jesus’ kingship (gold), divinity and identity as the Son of God (frankincense), and myrrh (he will die).
In short, the gifts of the wise men signify Jesus is the king, God, and he will die for us to live.
After they worship him:
Today, many people worship him, but without any changes or hearing from the spirit guide their path.
As for the mise men, having been warned in a dream not to went back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. v.12
The angel of the Lord guides them. The word became the light to their path. They did not simply give in on meeting the earthly ruler as they had seen the Supreme Authority.
There must be a change since we met him and worshiped him. It is incomplete without the change. The change will sow a seed, which will further flourish in the light of the Lord.
A way to worship him:
Here I wanted to take a moment the mention the shepherds. It’s the worship of the downtrodden for comparison of the worshipers for all. Jesus is for all kinds of people irrespective of caste, creed, color, occupation, etc.
While they were out in the open in the field nearby, an angel of the Lord said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:8-12
They hurried off to Bethlehem and found just as they had been told. They were amazed at what they had seen.
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Luke 2:16-20
Let us worship him:
Jesus declared, that God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and truth. John 4:24
Share the love by caring, praying, and giving financially as the spirit speaks to you. You may at least lend a listening ear to someone in need.
Today, we can’t see him personally, but not like the wise men, as man is mortal. We can see him and be with him in the spirit. He paid the price for mankind’s lingering damages, leading us to live a privileged life.
Let us worship him this season, not just busy decorating, celebrating, partying, and sitting under the poisonous mistletoe that radiance romantic love. It’d be better not to get lost in the season’s festivities.
Let us celebrate the greatest gift by gifting the love of Christ to others. We can also give gifts to someone in need.
Merry Christmas!
