anxious moments

Their short vacation was nearing an end this summer. We took our young ones out to lift their mood by visiting a movie theater and the nearby restaurants.

I get anxious very easily, not a thing to boast about, and I intended to hide this side of me. It’s often caused by a disorder that I had for a long time. I must work out my anxiety or which may trigger a problem for a while.

After all, it’s a day, once in a while, we spend together outside as a family.

Whenever there was a good movie that drew our interest, we went to the movie theater. Yet the lights and the loud sounds are a big NO for me as they trigger my neurological disorder.

I have written a little about it in my book Intractable: Years of Neuro Disorder.

This time around, I did not want it to become an issue. I want my family to let them enjoy the movie with me. Yes, it’s safe to say I wanted to be part of the team.

And that’s how I sat comfortably at first, before the show started. We had our light banter and laughs. It was a special moment as a family.

Addressing anxious moments:

Now that the show has started, I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, kept my pills handy, and blocked my ears.

I did not want to be a spoilsport in this moment. I held firm, not setting myself lose to manage on my own. It’s a thing of the past – I reassured myself. I’m not claustrophobic; it’s just a part of my neurological disorder.

That day, it strikes me how much people like me and others who have a chronic disorder or people with habits that are bothering their lives would have the desire to overcome it.

Yet some of the things are beyond our control. And when we lost control, God is in control! Isaiah 40

Dealing with fear:

This fear is not out of cowardice, but out of intuitive reasoning because we know what is going on if something popped up out of nowhere. In order to live a fearless life, one must challenge negative thoughts. A balanced lifestyle and thoughts were crucial as we face hardships in the real world. Any form of aura and mindfulness has to be addressed.

Linda Knight, a gifted author from California, had gifted me a devotional on the book Fearless Living as we met on the blogging platforms. Her book is powerful.

Reading good books with positive insights from the Scripture verse encouraged our lives. Books and Scriptural verses have the power to tame our anxiety to live a fearless life by the grace of God.

Seeking help:

I don’t want to write off this section. Identifying what triggers anxiety for people with a history of seizure or any neurological disorders is of utmost importance. There is no shame in seeking help.

First, one must identify what triggers our problem, and once we have, the therapists are ready to help as per our needs or as is suitable for us. Seeking help does not mean we lose confidence.

Secondly, we can create a support system that may include good listeners, a trusted person, family, and individuals with experience in coping with the problem.

Above all, pray steadfastly, there is no helper greater than the living God; he may seem late at times. God, the creator of us all, won’t simply let us be left embarrassed among men. God is the able healer physically, mentally, and spiritually.

The upside of anxiety:

It’s no longer; I’m not able to handle anxiety. With the help of medication and brain surgery, I am now very much better than before. And I’m not sure if I’m having anxiety attacks, as my disorder stems from the brain.

However, these small things or limitations in life remind me of the need for my dependency on my Savior. This practical dependency on God to take care of me becomes a tool to get closer to God.

You may have heard people quoting, ’The is an upside and downside to everything in life.’ Well, I agree with it at a certain level. Having struggled with uncontrollable episodes of life, I can only say that it is only better to focus on the upside of life.

Walking by faith:

If you’re an ardent follower of my writing, you may come across my article titled Deformed Eyesight. When my eyesight failed me, I had to walk by faith that I’m on the right path, taking the right step in the real world.

It was during that period, although it occurs now and then, that I knew I had to walk by faith. If I know where I’m headed, it takes a giant leap of faith to reach my destination safe and sound.

Even though it’s not an ideal practice, let me just hand-pick only a verse from the Scripture. “ For we live by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor 5:7 We are confident because we believe in the Lord God and the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ to make us whole again.

Entrust your anxiety:

Here is a common yet very powerful Bible verse that is very comforting. “Cast all your anxiety on him (God) because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 this verse reminds believers that God is concerned about their worries, as a father is, and invites them to turn to him.

At least we have someone who cares – we can entrust our anxiety to God. He will take care of it. There were times when we suddenly felt the divine comfort of his presence.

However, there were also times when it was hard to get peace within an immediate time frame. No one controls God; it is he who controls everything.

Cast your anxious mind:

Positive words and encouragement can help alleviate the mind. Proverbs 12:25

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” This verse often encourages me to rely on God’s strength and support as I deal with my problem.

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Don’t get anxious:

It’s been in my habit, as it also shows, that I often take it as granted that there will be anxious moments due to my surroundings and what I went through as a person in flesh.

Yet I am also reminded of this verse. ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’ Phil. 4:6-7

So, in him, my anxious mind will get peace, although I will continue to take care of things that may trigger unnecessary episodes in my daily life. I’m grateful for his abiding grace, which brought me this far.
