Withering flowers

I appreciate flowers, especially cherish them if they’re mine. I was on our college campus when someone gave me red roses; it gave me goosebumps. Yet I hide it, and I’m good at hiding emotions at the time.

Flowers wither; some love fades away!

I’m a guy, maybe I should not have said it out loud, but I love flowers. We have different taste of our likings, yet it’s fleeting.

The red roses bloom not for everyone. Our wedding anniversary flower, this year, is withering. I can’t stand the sight of being thrown away in the trash can. It was cherished once, adored, and a symbol of love. And it felt like sometimes love just ain’t enough.

So, I took some of them and simply planted them in a pot. It may last longer. And in that way, I would see every morning I wake up, at least for a few days.

No wonder the scripture often likened our life to flowers, which wither by the time the sun sets on the horizon. The same Sun will rise again, but one day we will not see it again.

Flowers, Days, and Life:

Not all life flourishes in the eyes of man; all mortal judges others. For they have a functioning mind, seeing the weakness and faults of others. Yet nothing on this earth lasts forever.

We simply dig up our past to study, and we have given it a name and profession. Does it cross our mind that we could be the world in the future?

The Psalmist praises the Lord, also warns not forget all His benefits in Psalms 103. The Lord redeems our life from the pit and crowns us with his love and compassion. It is he who satisfies our desires with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Flowers of the field:

“The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.” Psalm 103:15-16

“All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls.” 1 Pet. 1:24

However, the Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. Psalms 103: 8-10

In this short lifetime, the Lord God has given us his greatest gift of grace to mend our ways and reconcile with him. Without establishing our relationship with God, in humility, the brevity of life becomes wasted years.

Fleeting like flowers:

Grasses withered away in the dry season, yet if their roots remain intact, they have a new life. In other words, although fleeting, they sprout again.  “They spring up like flowers and wither away; like fleeting shadows, they do not endure.” Job 14:2

But a man dies and is laid low; he breathes his last and is no more. Our life is fleeting, the body no longer feels the pain; people mourn him, yet a new life in Jesus awaits him.

God’s way of numbering our days differs, “They (men) are like grass that springs up in the morning—in the morning it blooms and flourishes, but by evening it is dry and withered.” Psalm 90:5-6 Teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom, according to your will.

Flowering each day:

Life isn’t easy for each one according to their problem. I now live with my, in a sense, selfishness that I owe no one an explanation. My neurological disorder twisted me when I wanted to be normal.

But there is hope in this suffering world; each day counts to flower at least for ourselves. Flower for no one, but rooted in the word of God. Take pleasure in the Lord who willingly anchors our life despite the setbacks and uncertainties of life.

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8 Now, a voice of comfort is calling in the wilderness of our life; he makes everything balanced, not according to our will, but in his will.

Nothing is regarded as worthless and less than nothing in the hands of God. Even the withering flowers will bloom again to the delight and in honor of him. Let us wait on him!
