Scarlet Red

My tryst with the colour red is paradoxical. It is seemingly absurd and self-contradictory. I don’t mind wearing red t-shirts or a red tennis cap. I think it looks good on me – making me more visible at times.

However, the colour posed a great threat to me when I am driving. The LED brake lights in front of my vehicle in a traffic jam or even on a normal day could trigger my neurological ill-health or condition. And to simply put it, I hate the red traffic lights and the flashy brake lights on the road. It’s a love-hate relationship for me, as my UV protection glasses could hardly help me.

When certain lobes of my brain do their work or underperformed their work they couldn’t withstand the red light. I cannot blame my eyes nor my brain which has been operated upon some 6 years ago. Instead, I’m trying my best to adapt to my photosensitivity and my surroundings as best as I could.

I did not drive for a while now – five months to be exact. However, I slowly started driving again and for which I give thanks to the Lord. Yet the colour red still poised a threat to me, which I tried to avoid.

Red is often associated with anger, power, and many more. I hope we all study in detail about PRISM and VIBGYOR in school, which gives us an idea about the red colour. The study explains the frequency and wavelength. The intensity of the visible spectrum of the colour to the human eye.

Today, I wanted to take your little time to read and consider how the scripture uses the word “red” which is mentioned in the first chapter of Isaiah.

Indictment And The Cure:

In other words, it is about the diagnosis and cure offered specifically on the most sensitive topic of humankind since The Fall.

I likened it to my problem with the red lights when I read through this Scripture once again. As you know, I have been searching for ways to deal with my light sensitivity, I have a bigger wish to know about the cure.

Living with the knowledge and intensity of any kind of problem simply did not help. It needs to be cured. Yet it isn’t as easy as it seems to be. We need the hands of the doctor and the one who created us.

Scarlet Red to White as Snow:

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. Isaiah 1:18

It is the Lord, our Creator who is calling us to settle the matter. He wanted to make us clean of our sins. It is not pleasant for God to see us with our sins, which are like scarlet red. So, He wanted to make us clean. The door is fully open in his abiding grace!

The flashes of Red Light:

Now let us look into the cure and the procedure of healing. For me, I underwent the knife but hardly improve my living. The painful procedure is not the cure, it is to reduce the chance of preventing from getting it worse. I very much wish it is a complete cure for my condition. Then, I’ll embrace all sorts of lights or flashes of light just as I used to do it before.

Sin like Scarlet Red:

We were dumber than the dumb donkey, which at least to some extent can be taught to carry loads. Many churchgoers are only with empty hearts, as they filled in the pews. Our sins clouded our minds and thoughts like a scarlet red.

Our God hated everything they did for namesake. There’s a larger picture that comes to play when we offer our sacrifice to God. God is not pleased with all kinds of sacrifices. King Ahaz did the wrong things. 2 Chronicles 28

Forsaken for Our Sake:

Our sin is so thick that we are far from being ashamed, shame, and embarrassed. Yet Jesus Christ all of these for us. It hurts the Lord to look at his son bearing all our iniquities on the cross.

God has even forsaken his Son. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Sin cannot be tolerated. It is us who must be forsaken! Do you think God would not keep his words if we do not turn away from our sins and received him in our hearts? The answer is NO. He cannot see His own son coloured in our sins.

However, the good news is that Christ had paid for it all. All is paid! We are rescued; cleansed of our sins. Amen!. We will no longer perish but have eternal life!

The Red blood Dripping:

As they mocked and dragged the Lord Jesus Christ with a cross on his shoulder to Calvary’s Mount, his body is covered with blood. The red blood from the beating and the torture was unbearable to man.

The red blood dripping on the cross is getting rid of the adversaries, paving the Road to Redemption. If we believe, then we’re redeemed! We don’t need to undergo the agony of the cross anymore!

Still, we keep on covering our mind and body with red colour, although we were already made pure in his eyes. It might be physical colouring, painting or spraying colours, which is the outcome of our dirty minds. We try to gain pleasure at the moment by dancing in the neon lights.

Now is the Time:

Now, not tomorrow, you can be late, as my doctor would advise. I got admitted for observation without returning home that day. If possible I wanted a cure for my neurological condition. I wanted to do more. There were so many things I wanted to achieve in life.

As much as I wanted to get healed physically, I know it’s more worthy to get a cure for my sin. Living with my sin, carrying the burden, is not for a lifetime only. I will be heading towards an eternal hell of fire if I forfeit this cleansing for eternal life in the presence of the one who bore my sin on the cross.
