Supporting Role

Award functions often included the prestigious Best Supporting Role. Most movies or a particular scene needed a supporting role without which the setting, narration, and motive for including the set would be incomplete.

I am a great fan of movies with dialogues reflecting reality. There are several film industries. depicting and thriving in congruence with the region, intended genre, hidden agendas, strata of societies, and morality being displayed.

With the coming of age, our age now, it is a known fact that the taste of movies we love changes drastically. Here, I’ll not be talking all about movies or films, but the relevance of supporting roles in our day-to-day life as well. The cornerstone, if we were to put it in a scriptural term.

First, I want you to deeply engross in the Nativity Story – the Birth of Jesus. Whom do you find the supporting role worth mentioning in relating to the birth of Christ?

The obedience of the Supporting Roles:

I don’t know whom to pick in particular. All the angels, men, and women involved in the birth of Christ were interconnected by a special characteristic, which is their obedience. I remember the song I learned in my childhood days: O-B-E-D-I-E-N-C-E obedience is the very best way to show that you believe.

In Mary’s very words, “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. Luke 1:34

The humility and obedience of Mary must be one qualification the Lord has found in her. Although it is out of context from the Bible, I included it here for my emphasis.

Then comes the obedience of Joseph, how he took Mary to be registered in Bethlehem. Then, a manger in Bethlehem became the first place where the newborn Jesus was placed. There was no guest room available for them, stated the Bible.

Supporting in a Negative role:

Sadly enough, King Herod plays a negative role in his desire to defend his generation. It must have been his duties and obligations, but he was put to be there. The prophecy about the newborn child was also revealed through him. The birthplace as foretold by the prophets reaffirms the birth of a new king in the lineage of David.

When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.

Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:

“A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted because they are no more.” Matthew 2:1-18

What is your Role:

It is the birth of a new king who sacrifices his divine power to save the world living in sin(s). We cannot undermine the divine power in play, which can never be understood whilst on earth or in our physical form.

We can give gifts, and spread love and joy in our neighborhood. There are many other things we can do at this time. Let me take a moment to wish you good health and still share your story. And, to keep going despite life’s struggles in this world. I know, if you’re someone like me, a word of encouragement makes a difference in our day-to-day life. I wish you well!

Let us keep playing our role even though we can no longer engage ourselves in demanding work or job or whatever is needed for living. It is important to remember that it’s a privilege to be part of the mission’ there were so many others who fit in the role more than we did.

Worship Moment:

Take time or create your worship moment for the newborn king. Give glory to God in the highest. No one deserves such praise except for the name of the living God. It would be our best role to worship and give him his due honor and praise this Christmas time.

The best way to support is to spread the message of Christ, his reason for coming into the world: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

As life and the celebration goes on, it is your choice, but also our privilege to be accepted in spreading this love and light of the world during this festive season. Support and play your role whatever little it may be with all your heart for the kingdom of God.

Thank you, Lord, for your best gift to me!

Merry Christmas and Happy New year 2023!
