Useful: Take my life

One Sunday morning I felt the need to rush to the Prayer Cabin on the hill. I wanted to urge God to take my life if I’m not going to be useful to him. And I did the same. Yes, I wanted to be useful in any way possible. And second, to make me useful to my family and people around me, even in my worthless state.

The day was noteworthy for another episode too. It was full throttle on both sides. It was delightful yet tiring at the same time. My usefulness is being put to test. But I believe it must be happening for good.

I’m not ranting against God for my present situation. But I wanted my sufferings and my mere living on this whole wide world to be useful for him. By the way, it is Him who designed and shape my life from the very beginning.

If I may, I want to be useful to him because I don’t know my remaining days here on earth
My health condition is getting than before. It makes me very glad – uplifting my spirit. I visited the doctor only twice or thrice a year now. Praise the Lord!

I’m positive I’ll be getting healed in his time. It’s just that I might have to wait on him as long as it takes time. My doctor, Dr SG advised more rest. In the meantime, my doctor did alter my medicines and advised several options available.

What is useful:

Now, what is useful? It is a word too common to define. As I take it, I wanted to be functional practically and proficient in performing any task placed before me. For that, I may need further training. We cannot define a person’s usefulness based on our personal whims.

However, let’s consider what would be the definition of God our creator towards the subject we’re talking about here? His way of usefulness might differ from our perspective.

God uses common people who were a shepherd boy, a slave, farmer, deceiver, homemakers, prostitutes, the son of a prostitute, a fisherman, and many more to be a deliver and example in various ways.

Readying to be useful.

To be useful, one must be willing and be readied by any means. Willingness is the most important. When I started writing, it was just the desire and willingness to do something for God.

I’m not trained nor good at it. I write from my first-hand experience. yet all willing people are not used either. There is more to it.

Most of my writings are a product of my being in the School of Suffering not by my choice. This year I have the chance to meet several people who told me that they read my writings from time to time. I give out nothing, but when the spirit works in them, my simple writings become the catalyst to renew and strengthen our faith.

Training to be useful:

Next, I felt the need for me to brush up on my theological knowledge and foundations, many times. I have no background except what I learned from Sunday School as a child in the field of theology. I simply write as the word spoke to me.

Presently, my tight financial budget did not allow me to pursue further studies. So, I relied on the Free Online Courses available at home. I have followed a few Seminaries to check on their programs at a nominal fee. It will be a way for me to get readied to be helpful.

The useful vessel:

If anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:21
Many vessels are used in our day-to-day life. You would find it in the hands of the roadside dwellers. Those were mostly unclean, might be clean but not shining. Some vessels made it to the king’s chamber while some made it to the grandest hotels and bungalows. and apartments.
Not only that, some were used in the Lord’s Supper. They would hold the juice and the bread, which represent our saviour’s blood and flesh blood in remembrance of him. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Being useful:

I cannot say with pride, but with great humility that I’m meagerly being useful in my capacity as a writer. I’m delighted to be able to write the word of God although with little knowledge. My derailed living might be a blessing in disguise to me. One must stay connected to the vineyard to be useful. To stay connected is to bear fruit for the vine. John 15:1-7
I’d never say never but dream big for the Kingdom of the living God. It is the Lord who raise me up from the slimy mud and carries me in his arm to a safer and better place one day at a time. Should I ever forget this truth, it will ruin me again and I might perish. Our God is the God of a second chance! His grace and mercy are renewed every morning.

Usefulness:

Our usefulness varied according to our talent, the path we’ve been through, and the place we’re in. Some are useful for their households, some in the marketplace, workplace and the like. We can be useful to the local church, but we should not limit ourselves.
It is better to ask the Lord to make us a useful vessel for him wherever and whatever we perform. We can be useful even in our dilapidated state. Many people speak or are used in their most unwanted state!
We were nothing, might be sinners, physically and mentally broken. However, in his grace, you and I can still be useful! And if you don’t find this piece of writing useful, you can help me!

  1. I just discovered your blog here, Siam. I’m glad I did, I have now signed up to receive new posts by email. Just a note — usefulness is not limited to something you can do physically. The most useful thing a believer can do is to intercede as the Holy Spirit directs you, praying for people, situations, current events, or other things. Any time you aren’t involved in doing something else, intercede. It’s more than just praying, it’s praying what the Lord says to pray, so He can do what he wants to do, through your prayer.
