My father’s business

My father did not have a running business when he departed. Well, no business at all for us, to be left behind except for our family matters in our hands before we’re ready.

My father is always a start-up person. He did not achieve much in terms of work and finance. He was a cultivator, running a small shop although it did not last long, and a person who drove people around the small town. So, there’s almost nothing to look after for his business.

While delivering my father’s eulogy, on that day, I talked about the unseen footsteps of my father which we need to cautiously look around and followed. During his lifetime, I get to know his preferences – the things I have seen and learned from him were life’s practical lessons, which I need to keep with me.

If my father’s business is flourishing with a high annual turnover, every one among his children would be excited to keep his name and business. We won’t be troubled with other things but we’d looked after his business.

More important than that is to love whom he loves and cares for, to handle our family affairs with subtlety, and get on his feet.

What is the business of your father?

We are the children of different types of fathers. It would be interesting to know how many people continued to look after the business of their father. Some have a father who built a company for their child, yet all of them don’t succeed in the process.

On the contrary, it is natural and wise if a successful father to hand over his business to their children. Yet not many of their children were successful in handling their father’s business as much as their predecessors.

Now that is the way of the world. All it takes is love, and the willingness with proper training to be at the helm of a father’s business.

At his father’s house:

Now I want to take you to the young twelve years old Jesus. Luke Chapter 2 recorded a brief account of the young child. Just as they did every year, Jesus and his parents went over to Jerusalem at the Feast of the Passover.

When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it but supposing Him to have been in their company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances.

So, when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.

My Father’s Business:

His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” Luke 2:49
Young Jesus knows who his father is. He knows that he must be busy with his father’s business at a very young age.

Our Old and New Father:

Our old father as mentioned in the scripture: You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

Now, through his sacrificial work on Calvary’s cross, we become the children of God – our new and real father:
Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So, you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. Galatians 4:6-7

Whose Business Now?

Now we know who our father is. Then whose business we should be busy with? If anyone is busy with our old father, then we cannot claim to be busy in our father’s business.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matt. 6:24

The question is whose business is now? Are we trustworthy to the Father we serve? Our business will determine our father and vice versa.

My Father’s Business:

The sun is now on the horizon
All were home by this time now
The boy’s not returning home
Where have you been, my boy?
My dear friends and relatives,
Have you seen our young boy?
His parents are truly anxious.

##
After three days have passed
We’ve been searching for you
“I must be in my Fathers’ business”
They were amazed at his words!

##
I must be in my Father’s business
Yes, the business of my Father
His word is so sweet for my soul
And since I have become his son
I’ll be busy with his business!
#
Life keeps me busy aplenty
If I’m busy in God’s business
I’ll be counted as the blessed
Prune my life for your garden
To serve and walk with you
